The Miramar Facility is located on 25 acres in north Claremont. When
the Three Valleys Board of Directors approved the purchase of the site
in the 1970s they knew its high elevation would allow them to use gravity
to deliver the water to local agencies and avoid expensive pumping
costs.
Hydroelectric generators at Miramar harness the energy contained
in water that is moving under high pressure. Part of the electricity
produced
is used to power the water treatment facility, while the rest is sold
at a wholesale rate. Three Valleys has three hydroelectric facilities
that can produce over 1,000 kilowatts.
