Depending on local
geology, the availability of groundwater varies tremendously within
the Three Valleys area. Thus, the water delivered to your home
or business may consist of some quantity of locally occurring groundwater,
combined with imported MWD water purchased by Three Valleys for the
cities, retail water companies or districts that serve you directly.
On average,
Three Valleys meets about 60 percent of the region's needs, amounting
to over 22 billion gallons of high quality water each year. Recycled
water is a small but important part of the water supply, used for irrigation
and industrial uses.
To stay ahead of the changing water supply and water quality picture,
the role played by Three Valleys Municipal Water District has grown in
responsibility and complexity. Well positioned to identify region-wide
challenges and opportunities, the district now facilitates inter-agency
water planning, local exchanges and transfers, water conservation, and
other projects to manage all available supplies as efficiently and economically
as possible.
